De Lima skips DOJ prelim inquiry on drug charges

(Eagle News)– Senator Leila de Lima on Friday (December 2) skipped the first preliminary probe of the Department of Justice (DOJ) on the four complaints filed against her in connection with the illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

De Lima has earlier announced that she won’t show up, since her presence was not really required.  She said she would just send a representative who will obtain the copies of complaints.

De Lima sent her staff, Romeo Siazon, to obtain copies of the complaints against her for drug trafficking and other related charges.

The senator also said her lawyer would be filing an omnibus motion within the day.

The complaints against De Lima were filed by high profile inmate Jaybee Sebastian, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), and former NBI deputy directors Ruel Lasala and Reynaldo Esmeralda.

Other co-accused in the complaints are former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Franklin Jesus Bucayu, former BuCor officer-in-charge Rafael Ragos, De Lima’s former security aides Ronnie Dayan and Joenel Sanchez, and several inmates like Herbert Colanggo, Peter Co and Jojo Baligad.

De Lima has repeatedly denied allegations linking her to the drug trade inside the NBP.
