De Lima asks SET to make public results of recount in connection with Tolentino’s poll protest

(Eagle News) — Senator Leila de Lima has asked the Senate Electoral Tribunal to make public the results of the recount in selected precincts in connection with the poll protest filed against her by former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chair Francis Tolentino.

In filing an Urgent Motion to Release the Results of Revision and Appreciation of Ballots in the 25 percent Pilot Protested Precincts on Feb. 4, De Lima, who landed 12th in the senatorial elections in 2016, also urged the SET not to grant Tolentino’s motion to withdraw the protest, saying there was a need to “stop the misinformation and to finally stop (him) from playing the victim.”

Tolentino, who landed in 13th place in the 2016 senatorial elections, filed the motion to withdraw on Jan. 19.

This was after the SET denied his motion to suspend proceedings or to archive the protest, citing the impending elections in May.

Tolentino is running for a seat in the Senate anew.

“When these official results are out in the open, Tolentino can finally make peace with the fact that he was not cheated. He was defeated, and there should be no shame in that,” De Lima said.
