De Lima admits affair with driver

MANILA, Philippines (Eagle News) — Senator Leila De Lima has admitted her relationship with her former driver and bodyguard, Ronnie Dayan.

However, she denied all other allegations linking her to the illegal drug trade.

For the first time in months after President Rodrigo Duterte branded De Lima as an immoral woman for having an affair with her driver, De Lima broke her silence and confirmed that she had a relationship with Dayan for “a few years.”

Asked why she fell for Dayan, the lady senator said it is due to, in her words, “frailties of a woman.”

Duterte earlier claimed that the former Justice Secretary gave Dayan an authority to allow contrabands and other privileges inside the national penitentiary.

He also said Dayan receives money from the inmates to fund De Lima’s campaign, and receives money and was given a house by the senator.

De Lima denied these allegations saying she helped Dayan with his finances but not to the point of giving him a house.

She also denied her involvement in the proliferation of drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prisons.

Instead, she said, she was the one who discovered the contrabands and tried to dismantle the drug trade inside the penitentiary.
