DA imposes ban on chicken products from Brazil; Customs bureau on alert

(Eagle News)–The Bureau of Customs is on alert over the possible entry of poultry products from Brazil.

In a statement, the bureau said this was after the Department of Agriculture banned the importation of the same following reports that shipments of chicken wings from the country tested positive for COVID-19.

“With the recent reports from China and in compliance with the country’s Food Safety Act to regulate food business operators and safeguard Filipino consumers, the temporary ban on the import of chicken meat is imposed,” the DA had said.

According to the bureau, its personnel were  “committed 24/7 to guard the country’s primary airport and its warehouses.”

Since January of this year, Customs personnel at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the bureau said, confiscated a total of 775.6 kilograms of meat products without permits arriving from a country which reported African Swine fever.

Despite the importation ban, the DA gave the assurance that chicken products from the Philippine market are safe to eat.
