CPP founding chair Sison: Resumption of peace talks should have no preconditions

(Eagle News) — Communist Party of the Philippines founding chair Jose Maria Sison on Thursday, April 4, welcomed President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision to work towards the resumption of peace talks.

In a phone interview over dzbb, Sison, however, noted that such a resumption should have no “preconditions.”

“Kapag may gusto, dapat may laya ‘yung anumang panig na magreklamo. Ihapag niya sa pag-uusapan ng dalawang panig. Doon nalulutas ‘yung problema,” he said.

Sison made the pronouncement after President  Duterte gave “clear instructions on the importance of forging a ceasefire agreement to stop mutual attacks and fighting while talks are underway,” based on Peace Secretary Jesus Dureza’s account.

But Dureza clarified that these were not preconditions but “enabling environment.”

President Duterte, who called off the peace talks last year, gave the directive to “work on” their resumption during a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, April 3.

“Let’s give this another chance,” the President reportedly said.
