CPP declares nationwide ceasefire from March 26 to April 15

(Eagle News)–The Communist Party of the Philippines has declared a unilateral ceasefire from March 26 until April 15.

The CPP made the announcement “upon the recommendation of the Negotiating Panel of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP), by way of direct response to the call of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres for a global ceasefire between warring parties for the common purpose of fighting the Covid-19 pandemic..”

Earlier, CPP founder Jose Maria Sison said he made the recommendation, days after he refused to reciprocate the Philippine government’s unilateral ceasefire, saying it was premature.

The Palace had slammed Sison’s initial stand, saying he was insensitive to what was happening around him.

According to the CPP, the nationwide ceasefire  takes effect from midnight of March 26  to 23:59 of April 15.

All commands and units of the New People’s Army were ordered to observe the ceasefire.
