COVID-19 cases in PHL climb to 1,566,667

(Eagle News) — COVID-19 cases in the Philippines climbed to 1566667 after the Department of Health reported 4478 additional cases on Wednesday, July 28.

According to recent DOH data, of these, 54552 were active.

So far, 93.4 percent were mild cases, 1.2 percent asymptomatic, 1.4 percent critical, 2.3 percent severe, and 1.64 percent were moderate.

Recoveries rose to 1484714 including the additional 6149 recoveries.

The death toll is now at 27401 including the 84 additional deaths.

The DOH has confirmed the local transmission of the highly transmissible Delta variant in the Philippines.

It said daily COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila, in particular, may reach 11,000 by the end of September due to the variant, which is said to be up to 60 percent more transmissible than the Alpha variant.

On Tuesday, nearby Laguna confirmed 18 Delta variant cases.

Bacoor, Cavite also confirmed eight members of the household of a Delta variant carrier had tested positive for COVID-19.
