Country honors Marawi heroes as tribute played nationwide, flags flown on half-mast




 

(Eagle News) — The country paid tribute at high noon today, June 12, on the commemoration of the 119th Philippine Independence Day, the soldiers and policemen killed in the fighting in Marawi City, a they remembered the heroes who gave their lives fighting Islamist terrorists.

With the sound of taps in the background, the names and photos of the 58 heroes of Marawi were flashed on the screen as television channels joined the high noon salute for them.

Malacanang said this was a tribute to the heroism of the soldiers and policemen who made the “ultimate ultimate sacrifice for the flag and the country we dearly love.”

“We would likewise remember all the innocent victims who perished as a result of rebel atrocities committed,” said Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella in a statement.

“We enjoin the public to honor these heroes and civilians and pray for them and the families they left behind,” he said.

The Philippine flag was also flown on half mast in all Philippine military camps.

Starting Tuesday, June 13, all government offices and agencies will also do the same in honor of the Marawi heroes.
