(Eagle News) –Voter turnout in the Bangsamoro Organic Law plebiscite has exceeded 85 percent.
This is according to Commission on Elections spokesperson James Jimenez, who made the announcement in a Tweet on Wednesday, Jan. 23.
Day 1 of the plebiscite, or Jan. 21, was conducted in areas in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Isabela City in Basilan, and Cotabato City.
Day 2, or Feb. 6, covers Lanao del Norte except Iligan City, and six towns in North Cotabato.
Canvassing of the votes is still ongoing, but initial results showed majority of the voters in Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, and Cotabato City preferred a ratification of the BOL, which aims to replace the existing ARMM with a more autonomous Bangsamoro.
Sulu has so far, however, voted no to the BOL, which President Rodrigo Duterte has touted as the only solution to the problems in Mindanao.
