Comelec, Smartmatic, PPCRV face poll sabotage raps

An election watchdog group filed an electoral sabotage rap against the Commission on Elections, Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting and poll service provider Smartmatic at the Office of the Ombudsman.

Mata sa Balota Movement (MBM) filed the complaint.

It said the respondents violated the automated election law, after the Smartmatic altered the script, which resulted to a change in the hash code of the poll body’s transparency server.

Named as respondents in the complaint were Smartmatic Manager Marlon Garcia, the one who changed the script; the unnamed Comelec Information Technology (it) expert who assisted Garcia and PPCRV national Chairperson Henrietta De Villa.

In its complaint, the complaint said tweaking the transparency script had placed “the credibility of the entire electoral process in doubt”.

The group said that a Smartmatic official could have not done the “cosmetic” change, if not with the “connivance” of a Comelec employee.
