(Eagle News)–The Commission on Elections First Division has cancelled the nomination of former National Youth Commission chair Ronald Cardema as representative of the Duterte Youth party-list.
In voting 2-0 in favor of the petition of youth groups who had said Cardema, who is 34 years old, did not meet the age criteria of between 25 to 30 years old of the party, the Comelec ruled Cardema had misrepresented himself.
Comelec Commissioner Marlon Casquejo dismissed Cardema’s argument his nomination should be allowed as the Duterte Youth also represented young professionals, who had no age limit, saying party by-laws did not even specify what a young professional was.
“The nomination of respondent, Ronald Gian Carlo L Cardema, as the first nominee of Duterte Youth party-list, is hereby canceled,” the resolution said.
