(Eagle News) — Classes in Davao will resume on Tuesday, Nov. 5, days after a series of earthquakes struck Mindanao.

Davao Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said the resumption of classes applies from the kindergarten to post-graduate studies levels, in both public and private educational institutions.

“School authorities are mandated to spend November 4 as a day to thoroughly inspect school buildings, review earthquake action, and disaster manual to ensure the safety of the students and employees,” she said.

She said school authorities are also expected to conduct earthquake and fire drills at least once a month, and to provide students with assistance to help them cope with any possible trauma or stress arising from the earthquakes.

On Thursday, Oct. 31, a 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck Mindanao, killing at least 21 people and injuring several others.

In Davao, at least nine people were reported injured after a condominium complex sustained heavy damage.

The 6.5-magnitude earthquake took place only two days after a 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck the region.
