CHR, witnesses fail to attend Senate’s ‘drug slays’ inquiry

(Eagle News)– Officials of Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has apologized to Senate justice committee and human rights as their officials and witnesses failed to attend the Thursday (September 22) Senate hearing on drug killings.

Chairman of the committee Senator Richard Gordon read CHR commissioner Gwendolyn Pimentel-Gana’s letter of apology for their absence, saying they learned late of the resumption of the hearing.

“We will not be able to attend tomorrow’s hearing because of the recent development and uncertainty in the schedule of hearing. It was only this (Wednesday) afternoon that the hearing will continue,” the letter said.
“The CHR does not have enough time to secure the witnesses. Rest assured that we will produce the witnesses in the next hearing,” it added.
Aside from Gana, other CHR officials who missed the hearing were Chairperson Jose Luis Martin Gascon, National Capital Region director Gilbert Boiser, NCR Special Investigator Jun Nalangan, Rehion II director Jimmy Baliga, Region II Special Investigator Anton Cruz, Director for Field Operations Homero Matthew Rusiana, and Director for HR protection office Flora Atilano.
