CHR condemns abduction of 4 allegedly by NPA rebels in Oriental Mindoro

(Eagle News)–The Commission on Human Rights on Sunday, April 7, denounced the kidnapping of four people, including a barangay chairman, in Oriental Mindoro allegedly by members of the New People’s Army.

“We stress that any form of arbitrary, unlawful taking and confinement is punishable by law, much more so if eventually treated inhumanely and with cruelty,” CHR spokesperson Jacqueline de Guia said in a statement.

According to De Guia, the Philippine Constitution, “alongside other laws,” after all, “guarantee our right to liberty and security of persons.”

“These acts must be pursued to the fullest extent of our laws and ensure that perpetrators be punished in the name of serving justice to all aggrieved,” she said.

Apart from Peter delos Santos, chair of Barangay Malo, Bansud; abducted on Friday, April 5, were his wife Ruth; Rocky Boy Bueta, barangay tanod; and Reymando Malupa, a member of the CAFGU Active Auxiliary.

Delos Santos and his wife, and Bueta were released the day after.

Malupa is still in custody of the rebels, the police said.
