China defends construction of lighthouses in South China Sea

After being subjected to public scrutiny in their construction of lighthouses in the disputed Spratly Islands, China on Tuesday, October 13 defended the construction of the lighthouses.

China said that these lighthouses will provide efficient navigational aid and route guidance services and will ensure the safety of the passing ships in the disputed island.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying Spratly Islands, an international shipping and fishing region, should be equipped with such structures to avoid having accidents in the busy waters of the West Philippine Sea also known as the South China Sea.
