Australia warns citizens vs traveling to parts of Mindanao

(Eagle News)–Australia has asked its citizens not to travel to Central and Western Mindanao, including Zamboanga and Sulu. According to the advisory, Australians should also reconsider traveling to Eastern Mindanao. Australia issued the security advisory after the Cotabato mall bombing that killed at least two and injured several people. The attack took place on Dec. 31. Authorities said the Daulah Islamiyah could be linked to the attack.  

No classes in Naga, Bicol from Jan. 3 to 6

Camarines Sur suspends classes from Jan. 3 to Jan. 6

Classes to resume on Jan. 7 (Eagle News)—Camarines Sur has declared a province-wide suspension of classes starting Jan. 3, following its declaration of a state of calamity due to the effects of “Usman.” Governor Luis Villafuerte said the suspension, which applies to all levels, was to “ensure the safety of everyone, especially of schoolchildren, and to give more time to their families to recover from the recent typhoon.” He said classes will resume on Jan. Number of establishments offering accommodation in Boracay increases to 296

(Eagle News)–The number of accredited establishments offering accommodation in Boracay has increased to 296. The Department of Tourism said this translates 10,467 rooms as of Dec. 31, 2018. The DOT ordered the closure of establishments not complying with environmental laws in Boracay, during a shutdown of the island for six months so it can undergo a rehabilitation. UK warns against traveling to Mindanao

(Eagle News)—The United Kingdom has warned its residents against traveling to parts of Mindanao due to “terrorist activity” and clashes between government troops and insurgent groups. “The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to western and central Mindanao and the Sulu archipelago..,” the advisory said. At least two killed, several injured in Cotabato mall blast

(Eagle News)—At least two people were killed and 21 others were injured after a blast ripped through a mall in Cotabato on Monday, Dec. 31. Authorities said the cause of the explosion was an improvised explosive device that was inside a wrapped box. It was still unknown who the suspects are. Authorities said, however, that based on history, the Daulah Islamiyah have been conducting attacks in the area.
