ROSZKE, Hungary, September 9 (Reuters) — A Hungarian camerawoman was reportedly fired from her job on Tuesday (September 8) amid allegations that she tripped up refugees as they fled from police in Hungary.

A migrant carrying a child was photographed falling after tripping on the camerawoman while trying to escape from a collection point in Roszke village.

Hungary’s N1TV, who she worked for, later issued a statement condemning the woman’s alleged behavior.

Tens of thousands of migrants, many of them refugees from Syria’s civil war, have been pouring into Hungary, an eastern outpost of Europe’s passport-free ‘Schengen area’, seeing it as a springboard to wealthier western Europe, above all Germany.

The UNHCR praised Hungary on Tuesday for its handling of the migrant crisis which it described as “not easy”, but said the country must do more to streamline the treatment of refugees arriving at its borders.

The agency estimates 150,000 migrants have crossed the border from Serbia into Hungary since January this year, 85 percent of them refugees fleeing conflicts in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.

It said it expected the trend of arrivals to continue at least until October before the weather made sea crossings impossible.
