Calida calls Sereno a “liar”; says it was OSG that retrieved copies of some of her SALNs, not her

(Eagle News) — “Liar.”

Solicitor General Jose Calida on Friday, April 13, accused Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno of lying after her spokesperson alleged she already “recovered” nine of her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs).

Belying Jojo Lacanilao’s statement, Calida said it was the Office of the Solicitor General that actually secured the copies of the 1985, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997 SALNs of Sereno, and that submitted them to the Supreme Court.

Earlier, Lacanilao posted the March 6 letter of Angela Escoto, University of the Philippines Diliman Human Resource Development Office director, saying attached were the copies.

Escoto’s letter was a reply to the letter of request sent by Assistant Solicitor Generals Renan E. Ramos, Marissa Dela Cruz-Galandines, Rez Bernardo Pascual, Hermes Ocampo and Raymund Rigodon for the same.

“Today, Sereno again attempted to mislead the Filipino people. Sereno claims to have recovered (9) of her SALNs. Except for her 1989 SALN, assuming it is not a fabrication, those Sereno supposedly ‘recovered’ were the same ones submitted by the OSG to the Supreme Court,” Calida said.

Calida has filed a quo warranto petition seeking to have Sereno’s appointment as Chief Justice nullified.

On Tuesday, April 10, the Supreme Court held oral arguments on the petition.

An impeachment complaint has also been filed against Sereno.
