(Eagle News)–The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has retrieved the “black box” from the Lionair plane that crashed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport as it was on its way to Japan for a medical evacuation.

In a statement, CAAP said the flight data recorder was recovered from the gutted airframe of RP-C5880, a West Wind 24 aircraft.

CAAP said the plane’s Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) was also recovered from the crash site.

CAAP said it has already made arrangements for the analysis of the recorded material and for the processing of the FDR’s and CVR’s readouts.

Eight people died after the plane encountered technical difficulties before takeoff, crashed and caught fire.

President Rodrigo Duterte has condoled with the kin of the fatalities, who included six Filipinos, one American national, and one Canadian.
