BPP official: Panelo referred letter of request for executive clemency of Sanchez family to Board of Pardons and Parole

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo’s letter referring Antonio Sanchez family’s request for executive clemency to the Board of Pardons and Parole. The BPP denied Sanchez’s executive clemency bid.

(Eagle News)–Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo referred the letter of request for executive clemency of former Calauan, Laguna Antonio Sanchez’s family to the Board of Pardons and Parole.

This is according to BPP executive director 3  Reynaldo Bayang, who faced the Senate blue ribbon and justice commitees hearing the Good Conduct and Time Allowance law.

“In line with the President’s commitment for good governance, transparency and immediate action on matters that affect the welfare of the people, we are referring this matter to your good office for your evaluation and whatever appropriate action you may want to undertake under the premises,” Panelo’s Feb. 26 letter to Bayang read.

Panelo also asked Bayang to “update us for record purposes and for whatever action this office may want to undertake consistent with law and the policy of the President for good governance.”

In a March 19 letter, Bayang informed Panelo the request had been denied by the board because of the “gravity of the offenses” Sanchez committed.

Panelo, Sanchez’s former lawyer, has already denied he had a hand in the reported release of Sanchez, who was convicted of the murder and rape of Eileen Sarmenta, and of the killing of Allan Gomez.
