Blast rocks Bilibid amid ongoing clearing ops

(Eagle News)–A blast rocked the New Bilibid Prison on Friday, Oct. 11, as authorities continued to conduct clearing operations.

Major Alberto Tapiru, NBP spokesman, said in an interview over radio dzbb that the blast, believed caused by an improvised explosive device, took place around 10 a.m.

Taipiru said it was still unclear where the IED came from.

Authorities are probing the incident, which took place as jail personnel cleared the facility of luxurious “kubols” of some inmates.

Lawmakers have called for a clean-up of NBP following revelations of corruption among some unscrupulous BuCor personnel.
