(Eagle News)—–Opposition senator Bam Aquino on Tuesday, Sept. 3, slammed President Rodrigo Duterte’s revocation of the amnesty granted to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, calling it a “clear oppression” of members of the opposition.
“Clearly irregular itong nangyayri. Probably illegal and unconstitutional,” he said.
According to Aquino, the amnesty granted to Trillanes in 2010 has the concurrence of Congress.
“Di pa ako nakakarinig ng amnesty na nirevoke. It might be the first time in our history,” he said.
He also questioned the planned arrest of Trillanes based on a presidential proclamation.
According to Aquino, based on what they knew, the cases filed against Trillanes were already dismissed in 2010.
“So anong kaso ang hinaharap ni Trillanes?” he asked.
“Nagsasayang lang ng oras ang oposisyon. Napakaraming problema ng ating bayan. Problema sa bigas, sa presyo at ito inaatupag ng administrasyon,” he said.
He said he was hoping the Senate “can come together and question some of these orders that are clearly irregular and possibly illegal and unconstitutional as well.”
