WASHINGTON D.C., USA (Eagle News) – Cosplayers, geeks, dorks, superheroes, villains, and the like will take over the nation’s capital in a show of force and fun! Three days of awesomeness will flood the labyrinth that is D.C.. From the likes of Batmans, to Supermans, to Captain Americas, to Japanese Animes, Pokemons, and many other comic book characters, D.C. will be the hub of the celebration of geekery.

AwesomeCon is D.C.’s largest pop culture event that has gained popularity all over the world and is a much awaited social gathering of in-costume and out-costume superfans and plain ol’ gawkers.

Co-founders of AwesomeCon, Ben Penrod and Steve Anderson, started with Annapolis Comic-Con and Southern Maryland Comic-Con in 2011 and 2012. Washington D.C. did not have a major geek event at that time so they decided to bring it to the US capital. From the 7,000 people that showed up on the first year, and the 18,000 on the second, The Walter E. Johnson Convention Center is expected to ooze this year with superfans who live, breathe, and bring the fantasy worlds of comic books and video games to life.

Included in this event is FutureCon, a three-day celebration highlighting the intersection of science, technology, and sci-fi. Kids will not be left behind because within this event, there is also Awesome Con Jr., a first-ever family-focused pavilion for kids that includes interactive opportunities with Nickelodeon characters from hit preschool series PAW Patrol and Shimmer and Shine, plus additional fun experiences from The Emoji Movie, How to Train Your Dragon characters, LEGO building zones, and a kids’ costume parade! Of course, AwesomeCon would not be complete without a Cosplay Contest and professional photo ops! You gotta have that selfie stick ready!

As always, a great number of celebrity guests are expected to participate in this event like former president and chairman of Marvel Comics Stan Lee (co-creator of Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Thor) and many more artists and authorities in the entertainment world will be in this convention from June 16 -18.

“There’s no reason that there isn’t one in every city, large or small, at least once a year”, Penrod said, “We are so lucky to be in D.C., though. We’ve got the best convention center, we’ve got the nation’s strongest economy, and our local area is full of students, soldiers, sailors, professionals, and geeks of all ages.”

Agree with that and the force will be with you.
