Ateneo rejects Advincula’s claim of meetings held on campus to oust President Duterte

(Eagle News)–Ateneo de Manila University on Friday, May 24, denied it had organized any meeting to oust President Rodrigo Duterte on campus, saying it was mulling filing charges against Peter Joemel Advincula for making the claim.

“The university categorically denies insinuations made…that it is party to a plot to overthrown the present government of the Republic of the Philippines,” president Jose Ramon Villarin said in a brief memo.

According to Villarin, Ateneo “reserves all rights to seek redress for any damages which may be wrought by such reckless claim.”

“..(It) takes seriously the imperative to uphold the rule of law in our democracy,” he said.

In a press conference on Thursday, May 23, Advincula said the Liberal Party and Antonio Trillanes IV were behind the “Bikoy” videos against President Duterte, his family and some of his allies.

He said he met Vice President Leni Robredo, LP chair, at an Otso Diretso meeting in Ateneo.

The LP has denied any links to the video, with Robredo calling Advincula a “liar.”

She said no such meeting to that effect took place.
