Ateneo probes bullying incident

(Eagle News) — The Ateneo de Manila Junior High School has launched a probe into the bullying incident in its premises that was captured in a now-viral video.

The video, which has been making the rounds on Facebook, showed a student asking another student to choose between “bugbog o dignidad.”

Almost immediately after, the boy who asked the question punched the boy he asked several times.

“The Ateneo Junior High School is dealing with this matter seriously beginning with an immediate investigation that ensued the moment the report reached us,” the school said in a statement.

According to Ateneo, “taken at face value, the video depicts an evident act of violence that constitutes a serious violation of disciplinary misconduct.”

It expressed concerns, however, about what it said were the “risks associated with sharing the video online and in social media groups.”

“Not only has the privacy rights of these minors been breached, but it has also provoked some reactions that do little to help the school in dealing appropriately with the incident,” it said, as it appealed to the public to put a stop to the “indiscriminate spreading” of the video.

Another video that has also been making the rounds on Facebook showed the same boy who asked the question in the first video forcing another student, who was kneeling, to say “Bobo ako.”
