At least three senators laud arrest of alleged gunman in Dominic Sytin slay

(Eagle News)—At least three senators lauded on Tuesday, March 12, the  arrest of the alleged gunman in the killing of businessman Dominic Sytin, with two of them saying it was tragic if indeed the victim’s brother was involved.

“I take my hat off to the PNP for the credible solution of the Sytin murder case. He was a friend and so is his brother Rommel,” Senator Panfilo Lacson said in a Tweet after the police announced the arrest of Edgardo Luib in Batangas.

Senator Richard Gordon said the arrest “shows that the police are doing their job.”

Senate majority leader Juan Miguel Zubiri agreed, as he thanked the PNP “for its relentless pursuit of justice for the Sytin family no matter who was guilty.”

“What motivated the killer? It was an extra-judicial confession. To be admissible, it must be voluntary; made with the assistance of a competent and independent counsel; express; and in writing,” Gordon added.

According to Zubiri, if Dominic’s brother Dennis was indeed the mastermind as alleged by the police, then the businessman’s death “is a double tragedy.”

Lacson agreed.

“It is doubly tragic that the family has to deal with the loss of Dominic and now the alleged involvement of another brother,” he said.

The police on Monday, March 11, announced the arrest of Luib, who they said tagged Dennis as the mastermind in the killing of his brother last year.

The police said the brothers already had a feud over control of shares in the family-owned United Auctioneers Inc.

Dennis has denied the allegations, saying he loved his brother despite their “differences.”
