Another PMA cadet dies, body found at bottom of PMA pool

(Eagle News)–Another Philippine Military Academy cadet has died.

The PMA said Cadet 4th Class Mario Telen, Jr. was found dead in the 15-foot deep end of the PMA pool.

Telen had been unaccounted for after he attended his swimming class from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, the PMA said.

He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival at the PMA Station Hospital.

PMA spokesperson Captain Cheryl Tindog said a “thorough investigation” was ongoing to determine, among others, if it was an accidental drowning.

She said all PMA swimming classes have so far been suspended.

“All needed actions and protocols are being undertaken to deal with any infraction and/or irregularity,” she said.

She added “all necessary assistance” will be extended to the kin of the victim.

“PMA deeply grieves for this unfortunate loss of one of our sons,” she said.

In September, Cadet 4th Class Darwin Dormitorio was found unconscious in his baracks in Fort del Pilar.

He later died allegedly due from injuries sustained from a series of beatings.

At least seven cadets have been charged over his death, which also prompted the PMA superintendent to resign.
