Año tells police to prioritize solving Halili murder case

(Eagle News) — Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año has instructed the police to prioritize solving the killing of Tanauan, Batangas Mayor Antonio Halili on Monday, July 2.

Año  said he specifically directed the Calabarzon police director, Chief Supt. Edward Carranza, to do the same.

“Maraming lumulutang na anggulo kaya trabaho ng Special Investigation Task Force na binuo ni P/Chief Supt.Carranza na pag-aralan at imbestigahan ang mga ito para agad na maresolba ang kaso ng pagpatay kay Mayor Halili,” he said.

The secretary gave the directive as he condemned the killing of the mayor, who died as he was being rushed to the hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound to the chest.

“We will not rest until the perpetrators of this heinous crime is brought to justice,” he said.

President Rodrigo Duterte, who said Halili was included in his narco-list, said the mayor could have been killed due to his supposed involvement in the drug trade.

The police have said they were also looking at the possibility his killing had something to do with his walk of shame campaign.
