(Eagle News)–Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar has dismissed as fake news a supposed article circulating online that said the King of Thailand had ordered President Rodrigo Duterte to behave during the 35th Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit.
In a video message, Andanar said the Bangkok Post, which supposedly carried the article on its front page based on supposed screenshots of the newspaper, did not even carry the alleged story in its hard copy.
“Kitang kita naman dito na iba ang nakasulat, see iba po ang nakasulat dito, ang pinagusapan dito ay five generation [5G] na cellphone so obvious talaga na fake news ang pinalabas,” he said holding a copy of the newspaper.
Andanar warned of the possible consequences of spreading “malicious fake news” against the King of Thailand, saying one could be jailed for 15 years under the Southeast Asian country’s lese-majeste law.
He added peddling these fake news could also have an effect on the bilateral relations between Thailand and the Philippines.”
“Kaya sana wag tayo gumawa ng ganung klaseng fake news..,” he said.
President Duterte is on a four-day visit to Thailand to attend the 35th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit.
