Alleged drug couple Odicta face DILG’s Sueno

(Eagle News)– Fearing for their lives, suspected drug lord Melvin Odicta and wife Meriam went to Camp Crame on Thursday to meet Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Ismael “Mike” Sueno.

“They were instructed to come here dahil their life is threatened in Iloilo. Tinatakot sila,” Sueno explained to reporters in a press briefing on Thursday.
According to Sueno, the couple are now giving statements before the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) where they also presented classified documents.
Sueno rejected to reveal the content of the handed documents.
“May information silang ibinibigay ngayon sa CIDG. They are being investigated, hintayin na lang natin ang sasabihin ng CIDG,”Sueno reasoned.
He told reporters that Odicta admitted that he was once convicted in 1991 for possession of stick marijuana but his sentence got shorter due to Dangerous Drugs Act. Odicta also dismissed to Sueno the accusation that he’s the “Dragon” drug lord of Iloilo province.
Atty. Raymond Fortun, lawyer of Odictas, said his clients are prepared for a lifestyle check.
“The Odictas are just humble businessmen, handa silang magpasubmit themselves to lifestyle check. Lalabas na ang kanilang mga negosyo, yung mga taxi, van, gasoline station, lahat ito ay based on loans with the banks,” Fortun explained.
“Walang drug lord na umuutang sa bangko. Everytime na mapu-fully paid ang loans na ito, doon sila kukuha ng bagong taxi, ganun lang talaga ang negosyo ng mag-asawang ito,” he added.
Fortun also clarified that if ever Odictas would give some named involved in narcotics trade, it will not include positions from the national post.
