All retired, incumbent members of judiciary now automatically exempted from mandatory continuing legal education

Names of MCLE non-compliant lawyers to be published in at least two newspapers

(Eagle News)–All incumbent and retired members of the judiciary are automatically exempted from the mandatory continuing legal education required of lawyers.

This was after the Supreme Court en banc approved the MCLE Governing Board Resolution No. 05-2019 that mandated the automatic exemption of those on the list to be submitted by the Office of the Court Administrator.

With the en banc’s approval, all incumbent and retired members of the judiciary shall no longer be required to file attestations of exemption beginning  the seventh 7th MCLE compliance period.

The en banc also approved MCLE Governing Board Resolution No. 06-2019 allowing the publication of the names of non-compliant lawyers in at least two newspapers of general circulation.

“The non-compliant lawyers shall be given 60 days from the date of publication within which to provide proof of compliance, otherwise they shall be considered as delinquent and shall not be permitted to practice law,” the en banc said. With reports from Moira Encina
