All barangay checkpoints now under supervision of PNP

DOJ: No PNP, no barangay checkpoint

(Eagle News)–All barangay checkpoints must now be under the supervision of the Philippine National Police.

According to Justice spokesperson Markk Perete, “no PNP, no barangay check points.”

In a memorandum from the PNP headquarters signed by Police Major General Emmanuel Luis Licup, all quarantine control points at the barangay level shall be specifically supervised by the unit commander or the chiefs of police.

“In this regard, all unit commanders, COPs shall ensure that all established QCPs at the municipal and barangay level are properly supervised. Likewise, ensure that it operates in accordance with  the guidelines set forth by the national government,” the memo said.

According to Perete, the PNP “shall likewise orient barangay officials/officers on (Inter-Agency Task Force) guidelines.”

“For guidance and strict compliance,” the memo said.

President Rodrigo Duterte has imposed an enhanced community quarantine in Luzon to prevent people, except the frontliners, from going out and arrest the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019.

QCPs have been established in select places  to “restrict the movement of people outside their residences except those authorized persons,” the memo said. With a report from Moira Encina
