Alejano wants House probe of possible theft from military armory following arrest of suspected suppliers to terrorists

(Eagle News)—Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano on Wednesday, Dec.19, said he would seek a House probe into a possible theft from the military armory following the arrest of suspected suppliers to terrorists.

In a statement, Alejano, a former Marine, said he would file a House resolution to the effect.

“We must put an end on corruption in the military now through instituting long-term policies and reforms in the system,” he said.

He said this has long been a “prevalent” problem in the military.

In fact, he said this was one of the reasons why he and other uniformed personnel in the Magdalo group went up in arms against the government of then-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

“Nakakadismaya na tila nangyayari muli ito ngayon.Talagang magiging mahirap na matalo natin ang mga terorista kung may traydor mismo sa ating hanay,” he said.

“Ang kapalit ng ganid ng iilan ay buhay mismo ng ating kasundaluhan. Huwag naman sanang bala pa ng gobyerno ang papatay sa ating mga sundalo,” he added.

Over the weekend, authorities arrested Edgardo and Rosemarie Medel after they sold P1.2 million worth of firearms and ammunition believed to be government property to undercover agents.

The firearms and ammunition were in boxes with the Armed Forces of the Philippines logo.

The AFP has launched a probe into the incident.
