(Eagle News)–The police are looking at politics behind the killing of Sapa-Sapa, Tawi-Tawi Vice Mayor Alrashid Mohammad Alih.
In a television interview, Philippine National Police Chief Oscar Albayalde said Alih’s father was on his third term as mayor and he was being groomed to replace him in next year’s elections.
Albayalde also noted the proximity of the polls.
“Hindi natin alam ang kadahilanan kung bakit yung mga kandidato, yung mga kumakandidato, yung natalo at nanalo, during before and after elections dito sa ating bansa, ay meron po talagang nadi-disgrasya,” he said.
Alih was on board his vehicle with his wife and bodyguard when he was shot at by a still-unidentified man.
Alih’s killing came after the killings of Tanauan, Batangas Mayor Antonio Halili, General Tinio, Nueva Ecija Mayor Ferdinand Bote and Trece Martires, Cavite Vice Mayor Alexander Lubigan.
Albayalde has ordered the implementation of “early security measures” for the upcoming polls.
