TS “Atsani” to enter PAR this afternoon but no effects expected yet

(Eagle News)–Tropical Storm “Atsani” is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this afternoon.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said so far, “Atsani” was located 1280 kilometers east of southern Luzon.

It is packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

It is moving west-northwest at 30 kph.

Once inside PAR, PAGASA said “Atsani” will be named “Siony.”

PAGASA said “Siony” is unlikely to affect the country’s weather in the next two to three days so far.

It is likely to intensify into a severe tropical storm in the next 24 to 36 hours.

So far, Signal no. 5 has been raised over Catanduanes, the eastern portion of Camarines Sur and Albay due to Super Typhoon “Rolly.”
