Number of COVID-19 cases among health care workers decreasing, says DOH

(Eagle News) – The number of health care workers getting infected with COVID-19 is decreasing over the past few days, with no new coronavirus-related deaths recorded as of Wednesday, May 6.

In a virtual presser, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that to protect health care “soldiers”, the department has implemented a more robust campaign on infection prevention and control measures such as webinars on doffing and donning of personal protective equipment (PPEs).

Data from the DOH showed that 525,065 coveralls, 2,646,550 face masks, 843,870 gloves, and 408,400 gowns have been distributed to health care workers as of May 5.

– No new deaths recorded –

As of latest DOH data, the number of health care workers infected with COVID-19 is now at 1,859, with 380 recoveries as of Wednesday, May 6.

No new deaths were recorded for the day, and the total number of COVID-19-fatalities remains at 34.

Vergeire also said that of the 1,445 active COVID-19 cases among health workers, 436 were asymptomatic, 1000 have mild symptoms, and 9 are severe or critical cases.
