(Eagle News)–A cardiologist who was at the forefront of the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 has passed away.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the loss of one of the great pillars of cardiology, PHA past president Dr. Raul Diaz Jara. He was a great father, teacher, mentor, poet, author, singer, colleague, friend,” the Philippine Heart Association said in a statement on Tuesday, March 24.
The PHA described Jara as a “great father, teacher, mentor, poet, author, singer, colleague, friend.”
“We deeply mourn for your loss but we want this more to be a celebration of your life.Philippine Cardiology will not be the same without you,” the PHA said.
Earlier, the PHA said a “young, brilliant, promising” cardiologist it did not identify died in the line of duty.
This was after the Manila Doctors Hospital confirmed the death of Dr. Greg Macasaet, an anesthesiologist, due to COVID-19.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III has said he was considering deploying medical students with no licenses to help augment the manpower in hospitals.
