“Ramon” maintains strength as it crosses Ifugao area

(Eagle News)– “Ramon” has maintained its strength and is now crossing the Ifugao area.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur, western portion of Isabela (Quezon, Mallig, Quirino, Roxas, San Manuel, Burgos, Aurora, Reina Mercedes, Luna, Cabatuan, San Mateo, Cauayan, Ramon, Alicia, Angadanan, San Isidro, Santiago and Cordon), Mountain Province, Benguet, Ifugao, La Union, Pangasinan as “Ramon,” last spotted in the vicinity of Aguinaldo, Ifugao, packed maximum winds of up to 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.

“Ramon,” which is moving south at 20 kph, is forecast to weaken into a Low Pressure Area within 24 hours.

According to PAGASA, strong to gale force winds will prevail over Batanes and Babuyan Islands due to the surge of the northeast monsoon.

Light to moderate with occasional heavy rains will prevail over Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Apayao, and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte, PAGASA said.

Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains are expected over Ilocos Sur, Abra, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Isabela, La Union, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya and the rest of Ilocos Norte.

Sea travel is risky, especially for small sea craft, over the seaboards of areas under a storm signal, as well as the seaboards of Camarines Norte and Catanduanes, the eastern seaboards of northern Aurora and Isabela, the western seaboards of Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro and Palawan, and the northern seaboard of Camarines Sur.

PAGASA said this was due to prevailing or forecast rough sea conditions caused by “Ramon”, Tropical Storm “Sarah” and the northeast monsoon.
