“Quiel” maintains strength, is almost stationary

(Eagle News) — Severe tropical storm “Quiel” has maintained its strength as it remained almost stationary, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

PAGASA said the center of “Quiel” was estimated 375 kilometers west northwest of Coron, Palawan, packing maximum sustained winds of up to 110 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph.

“Quiel” is forecast to intensify into a Typhoon within 24 hours but remains less likely to make landfall in any part of the country.

Until tomorrow evening, light to moderate with occasional heavy rains will be experienced over Cagayan including Babuyan Islands and Apayao.

Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains, on the other hand, will affect Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, Palawan, Mindoro Provinces, Aklan, and Antique.

PAGASA said sea travel is risky, especially for small sea vessels, over the northern and western seaboards of Luzon due to rough sea conditions.
