TD “Perla” maintains strength

(Eagle News)–Tropical Depression “Perla” has maintained its strength as it continues to move  west-northward.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said as of 10 a.m., the center of “Perla” was estimated  860 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan or 860 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan, packing maximum sustained winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

It is moving at 10 kph.

According to PAGASA, no tropical cyclone wind signal is in effect over any part of the country at the moment but “Perla” may bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over Batanes, Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands) and Apayao beginning Saturday or Sunday.

PAGASA said sea travel is risky, especially for small sea vessels, over the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon “due to potentially rough sea conditions associated with the northeasterly surface windflow.”

The weather bureau said the  weather disturbance is less likely to intensify into a Tropical Storm, with  a landfall or close approach over Extreme Northern Luzon within the forecast period likely.
