“Onyok” intensifies into severe tropical storm as it moves over PHL Sea

(Eagle News)–“Onyok” has intensified into a severe tropical storm as it moved over the Philippine Sea.

Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over Batanes and Babuyan Islands, as “Onyok,” estimated at 605 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, packed maximum sustained winds of up to 95 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kilometers per hour, and moved westward at 30 kph.

Between today and tomorrow morning, the trough of “Onyok” will bring scattered light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms over Cagayan Valley and Bicol Region .

“Onyok” is  less likely to make landfall in the country, but it may intensify into a typhoon within 24 hours.

Sea travel is risky, especially for small seacraft, over the Northern and Eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon, including those under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal #1 due to potentially rough sea conditions.
