Duterte vows to respect SC ruling in Bongbong Marcos electoral protest

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday, Sept. 10, said he would abide by the Supreme Court ruling in the electoral protest filed by former Senator Bongbong Marcos against Vice President Leni Robredo.

“We will just follow the law. If the (Presidential) Electoral Tribunal says Robredo is the rightful occupant, then we will just have to follow the final order of the Supreme Court,” he said.

The President issued the remark after the SC, sitting as the PET, announced it had concluded the recount and revision of ballots in the three test provinces of Negros Oriental, Iloilo and Camarines Sur.

The PET said case member-in-charge Justice Alfredo Caguioa already submitted his report on the recount on Sept. 9, but the PET has yet to act on the same.

The PET reminded both parties to refrain from making statements to the media as they were still covered by the sub judice rule.

Robredo was declared the winner of the 2016 vice presidential elections, after garnering over 200,000 votes more than Marcos.
