(Eagle News)–The family of Antonio Sanchez will not pay the P12.67 million awarded by the court to the families of Eileen Sarmenta and Allan Gomez, insisting  the former Calauan, Laguna mayor was innocent.

This was revealed by Elvira Sanchez, the wife of the former mayor who was convicted of killing and raping Sarmenta and of killing her friend Allan Gomez in the 1990s, during the Senate hearing the Good Conduct Time Allowance law on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

“Actually, your honor, we really have no intention [of paying],” she said, claiming  her husband was with her and their daughter Ave Marie on the day Sarmenta and Gomez were killed.

But Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon noted that this was the same defense Sanchez camp raised in court, and it was not given credence.

He then urged Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra to seek a writ of execution from the court to force the Sanchezes to indemnify the victims’ kin.
