(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, July 22, called on Congress to pass the National Land Use bill within the year.
The President made the call during his fourth State of the Nation Address before a joint session of Congress.
According to Duterte, the passage of the law will allow the country to “meet the demands of the new investors coming in.”
“A science-based national land use plan would serve as basis for the (local government units) in crafting respective development plans, and help disperse economic activities to the countryside,” he added.
Duterte noted that the “dispersion of economic and business activities to Visayas and Mindanao” is an “economic imperative and a key to our country’s sustainable and equitable development.”
“We will encourage investments that would develop the rural areas and Metro Manila and other mega urban areas,” he added.
