(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday, July 17, acknowledged cutting ties with Iceland may affect the Filipinos working there.
Earlier, Duterte said he was seriously considering severing ties with the Nordic country which was behind the resolution narrowly adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council and which sought for an international probe into the Philippines’ drug war.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. rejected the proposal and the calls for the Philippines to leave the UNHRC, saying it was a matter of pedagogical duty on the part of the Southeast Asian nation.
“They might not like the way we behave towards them and so it would prompt them to take measures,” Duterte said.
The President slammed Iceland again, saying the Nordic country took interest in the Philippines’ “domestic politics” even if it did not have a problem with drugs in the first place.
“Wait until the drug menace reaches their shore,” Duterte said.
