“Falcon” intensifies into tropical storm; Signal No. 2 hoisted over northeastern Cagayan, including Babuyan islands

(Eagle News)–“Falcon” has intensified into a tropical storm as it moved  westward on Tuesday.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said a Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 has been hoisted over the northeastern portion of Cagayan including Babuyan Group of Islands, with Tropical Storm “Falcon”–which is located 335 km east southeast of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan as of 4 p.m..–expected to closely approach or make landfall over Babuyan-Batanes Islands area tomorrow evening.

A Signal No. 1 is up over Batanes, the rest of Cagayan, northern portion of Ilocos Norte, northern portion of Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, Isabela, eastern portion of Mt. Province, and the eastern portion of Ifugao.

Between today and tomorrow afternoon, PAGASA said moderate to heavy rains will be experienced over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Zambales, Occidental Mindoro, northern Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo Islands, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, and Guimaras.

Meanwhile, light to moderate with at times heavy rains will be experienced over Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, and the rest of Visayas, Central Luzon, and MIMAROPA, the weather bureau said.

Between tomorrow afternoon and Thursday (July 18) afternoon, moderate to heavy rains may prevail over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cagayan Valley, while light to moderate with at times heavy rains may prevail over the Metro Manila, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, and MIMAROPA.

“Residents in  the aforementioned areas, especially those living in areas identified to be at risk of flooding and landslides, are advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates, especially the Thunderstorm Advisories and Heavy Rainfall Warnings to be issued by PAGASA Regional Services Divisions,” the weather bureau said.

PAGASA said sea travel  is risky over the seaboards of areas under TCWS and the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon and Visayas.

A signal no. 1 may be raised over the northern portions of Aurora, Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya and the rest ot Abra, Mt. Province and Ifugao, PAGASA said.

“Falcon” may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday (19 July).
