(Eagle News)–The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services will close its Manila office on July 5 due to “insufficient workload,” the US embassy in Manila said.
According to the US Embassy, this was because the USCIS will “transition Forms I-407 and I-130 to domestic and electronic processing, respectively.”
“These two form types account for approximately 65% of the office’s workload,” the embassy said.
The embassy said apart from the Manila field office, the USCIS office in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico will close on June 30.
The USCIS has also “entered into discussions to phase out all international offices,” the embassy said.
In any case, the embassy said under an existing inter-agency agreement, the embassy in the Philippines will “assume responsibility for certain limited immigration services previously provided at this location by USCIS.”
It added there will be “no change in visa processing at the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines.”
“USCIS is working to better leverage funds to address backlogs in the United States while also leveraging existing Department of State resources at post,” the embassy said.
