Palace: Pilot who landed chopper during DepEd event should have asked for clearance first

(Eagle News)–The Palace on Thursday, Jan. 10, said the pilot of the chopper carrying Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Diño was to blame for the backlash he has been receiving.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the pilot, in the first place, should have followed proper procedure before landing the helicopter at the PhilSports Complex in Pasig City during a Department of Education event.

Netizens accused Diño of abuse of authority after he got off the chopper and took a bathroom break.

“Magpapaalam ka muna kung saan ka pupunta. Unang una, hihingi ka ng clearance sa tower kung pwede ka na mag take off tapos kung saan ka magla-landing dapat alam mo na cleared doon,” Panelo said.

According to Panelo, as for Diño, if he knew there was an ongoing game at that time, “mali siya as an official..”

“Pero kung hindi naman niya alam, kung pasahero ka lang like when you ride an airplane, like me I sleep kaagad, malay ko na ano nangyayari doon,” Panelo said.
