Duterte wants road user’s tax used for rehab of Usman-hit Bicol

(Eagle News)—President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday, Jan. 4, said he wants the road user’s tax collected by the Road Board to be used for the rehabilitation of areas hit by “Usman” in Bicol.

The President made the announcement in a briefing with Cabinet officials in Camarines Sur.

“We will work together, convince Congress…wala naman silang magawa diyan (dahil) ayaw ko talaga e…Unahin na muna ang Bicol,” he said.

At least 122 people were killed after “Usman” hit Bicol.

The President has made known his position the Road Board should be abolished, noting that the road user’s tax which it collects from motorists upon registration of their vehicles was only used for corruption purposes.

The House of Representatives earlier rescinded its version of the bill that seeks the abolition of the Road Board, but not after the Senate adopted that version.

The Senate has said the House lost jurisdiction over the version of the bill seeking the abolition when the Upper House adopted the version.
