(Eagle News)—-The Pasay City Regional Trial Court has junked the electoral sabotage case filed against former President and now-Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
In granting Arroyo’s demurrer to evidence, which argues there is no sufficient evidence to sustain a guilty verdict in the case, Branch 112 Judge Jesus Mupas said the testimony of provincial administrator Norie Unas had remained “uncorroborated” as there was no other witness nor documentary evidence that could connect Arroyo to the crime she is being accused of committing.
Mupas also cast doubt on Unas’ credibility, noting his testimony was a requirement for him to be admitted to the Witness Protection Program.
“There is no allegation in the Information that accused Arroyo ordered, or even suggested, that election documents be tampered with, or that votes for any candidate be increased or decreased,” Mupas said.
With the Pasay court’s dismissal of the case, Arroyo no longer faces any case in court.
The plunder case filed against her in connection with the alleged misuse of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office funds and the graft case filed against her over the NBN-ZTE deal were ordered dismissed by the Supreme Court and the Sandiganbayan respectively in 2016.
